BioGest
The major ingredients in BioGest
are Wild Yam, Rose geranium and Sage essential oils which have been shown to
possess the ability to restore a womens natural hormone balance during the menopause
and PMS. In 1936, Japanese scientists dicovered
that a species of Wild Yam growing in the south of Mexico contained a chemical
called diosgenin. This compound is very similar to progesterone and the Mexican
Wild Yam was therefore used as the natural source for the production of progesterone
and other hormones. Wild Yam contains phytoestrogens
which produce an oestrogenic effect that has been shown to be valuable in relieving
the symptoms of female hormonal problems. It has been shown to reduce the fatigue,
inflammation, pain and stress associated with menstruation. These ingredients are formulated
into a unique cream base designed to optimise the absorption of the active ingredients.
The cream is vegetable based and contains no petrochemical based ingredients. BioGest differs from most Wild
Yam creams in several important ways: BioGest contains Wild Yam 1:1 extract
from Mexican Wild Yam. A liquid extract is superior to dried extracts or powders
because it contains a high concentration of the active ingredient diosgenin,
in a highly absorbable form. The extraction process occurs at the time of cream
manufacture to ensure the freshest and most viable ingredients are included
in the cream. The Wild Yam used in BioGest is
organically grown thereby avoiding unwanted environmental oestrogens. One of
the objectives of using these creams is to provide a treatment free of the artificial
oestrogens that are found in our environment. The homeopathics of Wild Yam and
progesterone used in the BioGest formula are included in the cream to help direct
body energy and assist in the production of the enzyme cascade to help rebalance
female hormone levels. Method of
application Apply 1/4 to 1/2 5ml teaspoon each
morning and night to soft skin areas of the body such as the abdomen, inner
thighs, breasts, neck, upper chest, inner elbow and inner forearm. Rotate applications
by starting on the inner arms on the first day then move to a different area
the next day. Once the different areas have been used once start the sequence
again. The cream is designed to mimic natural
hormonal levels giving your body a break for 5 to 7 days. This allows the hormone
receptor sites in the body to stabilise to normal levels.

Red Clover
Red
Clover is a native plant of Europe but was introduced to North America as a
pasture plant.
In the field of herbal medicine it has been shown to acts as a dermatological agent. It possesses mildly anti-spasmodic and expectorant effects. Red Clover contains tannins, which are known to possess astringent properties.
Traditionally Red Clover has been used for the treatment of chronic skin diseases, whooping cough, eczema and psoriasis. Red Clover can be particularly useful in children with asthma/eczema syndrome.
It has also been used in the treatment of breast, ovarian and lymphatic cancers. Its use in these areas is thought to be due to its content of Biochanin A, which has been reported to inhibit carcinogenic activity in cell cultures.
As Red Clover contains oeostrogenic constituents, its use should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

Black Cohosh
Black
Cohosh, Cimicifuga racemosa, is a member of the buttercup family, originally
used by Native Americans for it's 'normalising' and relaxant effects on the
female reproductive system.
Nowadays it is used primarily for painful periods and problems associated with
the menopause, such as hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.
Black Cohosh normalises temperature regulation by acting on part of the brain know as the hypothalamus, which controls body temperature.
There are several important constituents of Black Cohosh. The terpene glycosides effect the hypothalamus-pituitary system, reducing the concentration of luteinising hormone. This in turn decreases progesterone production from the ovaries.
Clinical trials have shown Black Cohosh to be useful for hot flushes/flashes and emotional problems associated with the menopause. Black Cohosh has been involved in several studies. Clinical evidence has shown hypotensive, vasodilatory and anti-inflammatory activity, which can alleviate symptoms of the menopause.
Black Cohosh contains a natural source of salicylic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect in painful inflammatory conditions.
Black Cohosh is not recommended for use in pregnancy, breast-feeding or in children. It is also not recommended for patients with oestrogen dependant tumours.
Dosing should continue for 6 weeks, followed by a one-week break.
There are no known interactions with orthodox drugs. Black Cohosh can be taken at the same time as HRT.
There are no significant side effects. Gastric upsets have been reported. Weight gain in possible.
Black Cohosh alters the oestrogen/progesterone balance in favour of oestrogen and therefore is particularly useful at reducing uterine cramps.
Black Cohosh has been used in the following conditions:
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has advised manufacturers to add warnings about Liver Damage onto product labels for Black Cohosh. New labels will advise people who have previously suffered liver disease or any other serious health complaint not to take black cohosh without speaking to a doctor first. The labels will also point out possible symptoms of liver disease.
